At Orchards C of E Primary and Nursery School we have a strong commitment towards inclusive education for all children. We aim to provide a secure, happy and supportive environment where every child can thrive and be successful. We promote ownership and use a Quality First Teaching approach to meet the needs of children. Teachers plan appropriately differentiated work and styles of learning to meet the needs of all children in their class.

Support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

When a child is identified as needing additional or different support, to enhance their progress, maintain their confidence and self-esteem, intervention is provided as the earliest opportunity. We work closely alongside parents, the child and staff and strive to provide the best possible education to all of our children.

There are a variety of support that can be offered, dependent upon the child's individuals needs. Including; social skills groups, small group support, communication groups, ERT (Expanded Rehearsal Technique), dog therapy, sensory circuits and much more. We adopt the graduated approach utilising the assess, plan, do, review framework. Progress towards these targets are monitored. If the child still requires additional support then in conjunction with parents, specialist support may be accessed.

The ‘Local Offer’  details the provision across Education, Health and Social Care that is available in the area for children with SEN or who are disabled. Cambridgeshire’s Local Offer can be found at:
